APA Style Guide 7th Edition: Home

Instructions, examples, templates, and other resources to help you properly cite your sources and format your paper in APA style. Updated in 2019 to reflect the newest edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.

Overview

In 2019, a new edition of the Publication Manual for the American Psychological Association was released (see Print Resources below). This Lightning Guide offers instructions, templates, examples, and other resources to help you properly cite sources and format your writing in accordance with the 7th edition of the APA style guide.

What is "APA Style"?

"APA Style" is a set of guidelines for citing sources and formatting pieces of writing that is widely used across a variety of disciplines, especially those related to the Behavioral and Social Sciences. APA Style was established and is continually updated by the American Pyschological Association with the goal of making essays easier to read by improving writer's unity and consistency of style.

From the APA Style website:

"When style works best, ideas flow logically, sources are credited appropriately, and papers are organized predictably and consistently. People are described using language that affirms their worth and dignity. Authors plan for ethical compliance and report critical details of their research protocol to allow readers to evaluate findings and other researchers to potentially replicate the studies. Tables and figures present data in an engaging, consistent manner."
