The Key 1976-77 Volume Two, Poem Called "A Sage of Friendship"

"A Sage of Friendship"

At first you were just another face, with
no connected meaning.
Somehow we got to know one another
At first we just exchanged pleasantries.
But soon the pleasantries became deepest
thought, and purest emotion.
And a very special love was formed.
Although we are many miles apart
In spirit we are together.
May it always be thus.

Staff's Message:

No one could imagine the amount of time that goes into a yearbook unless they work on a staff.

We, the staff, are proud to publish Volume Two of the Key.

Many thanks to all who have helped in any way and sincere thanks to the College for its continued support.

Faculty and Administration

...Life is just a span of time,
in which one can prove to
Mankind their greatness, and
to say, You and I are one,
though we are different, unique
...We are equal...
We are shining stars of
yesterday's future, destined
to flicker and die, yet, while
alive, we must shine forth,
through the darkness, We
must not be covered by it,
for what use are we then...

A Message From The President

The 1977 Edition of the Key is a breakthrough at Goldey Beacom College, Yearbooks, before have been published, but for the first time the publication has estiblished itself as an annual publication. The College is gratified that those responsible, editor, writers, business staff, and the advisor have succeeded in their efforts to make our yearbook an annual publication.

Those of us whose pictures have appeared in former editions of the Key have been impressed by changes in our oen appearance as well as changes in the College itself. You, the students are pictured but once, We will remember you as you appear here. We remember you as a student in the classroom, a participant in collegiate activities, and as one with your own ambitions and plans for the future.

Some of you will leave Goldey Beacom, never to return; never to be heard from again. Others will continue their contacts through visits, letters, and activity in our Alumni Association. Whatever you do, and wherever you go, you will carry something with you that was added here. And in later years you will come to know that each of you is a little bit of everyone you have ever known.

Your College is now approaching its 100th Birthday! That will come in 1986. By that time most of you will be settled into your new lifestyles as Alumni. Your interests will have developed in directions far afield of Pike Creek Valley and GBC. But what an event it would be for you to return here in 1986 for that big birthday party that is already being talked about. And I hope to be the first one to greet you on your arrival and hear of the wonderful experiences you wil have had since 1977.

The Graduates

Again a year has come and gone.
And thus a year has gained.
But still, even though, the days have past,
Our memories still remain.
We look and see the coming days,
With hope and expectations.
For you, I write this poem,
In hopes, that you'll have won,
Forever more in the days ahead,
A life that has just begun.

Monday Blues

I woke up one morning.
The skies were sad and angry,
And I looked out the window.
It was a dreary day.

My head was sore from Sunday.
My neck was stiff like tin.
Then with a shock I realized
'twas Monday, once again.

A sigh of grief was emitted -
a sigh of hopeless dismay.
I hobbled to the closet
to make ready for the day.

The food I had for breakfast
was the yechy, Monday type.
The cereal was soggy,
the orange was far too ripe.

With great distress I boarded
the bus, and settled down.
I didn't talk, I wouldn't smile,
the thing to do was frown.

The teachers were depressing.
They piled the homework high.
To keep awake, I watched the clock
as the day drug by.

At last bell was ringing and
dampered all the sorrow.
For now, school is over,
But then, there is Tomorrow...

But there has to be a Friday
when we can leave the "pen,"
and have our precious freedom.
Then it's Monday once again.

Activities and Organizations

Activities are a must
For any successful organization.
Planning is done months in advance
To reach a final goal

The goal may be to raise some money
For a worthwhile charity.
Or just to converse with others
About a common theme.

There's an organization for everyone.
Variety is a way of life.
Check it out and you'll find
The one to which you belong.

Student Government

This year at Goldey Beacom has been very fulfilling for me. Through my involvement with Student Government, i have made a lot of friends, learned to overcome obstacles, and how to work with other people in accomplishing the Student Government's duties.

I have enjoyed working with the Student Government mainly because of the student participation. The student participation has doubled since last year, and I hope it will keep on doubling in the years to come.

I would like to thank everyone for making this year one of the most memorable of my life.

A Smile

LET OTHERS CHEER the winning man,
There's one I hold worthwhile:
'Tis he who does the best he can,
Then loses with a smile.
Beaten he is, but not to stay
Down with the rank and file:
That man will win some other day,
Who loses with a smile.
