DEDICATION
In honor of his service to the school for over 40 years, the yearbook staff would like to dedicate the 1978 KEY to Mr. Isaac N. Giles, who retired in December 1977 from his position as Building Superintendent.
"POEM FOR IKE", BY RUTH B. JENKINS
Reminiscing of past years,
Voices kept ringing in my ears,
Faculty, staff and administration,
The voices kept saying, with little cessation,
Where's lke?
My drawer won't open.
My car won't start.
My stapler is jammed.
Where shall I park?
Where's lke?
The windows need washing.
The floor needs scrubbing.
The grass needs mowing.
Hey! It's snowing.
Where's lke?
Who will be our Santa Claus?
Who will make the punch?
Need we ask?
Need we pause?
There's lke?
The electrician, carpenter, mechanic, and plumber,
painter, brownie, and punch maker,
Chauffeuring, also, he does with such ease.
Whatever he does, he aims to please.
That's lke!

Editor's Message:
Do you remember your first step, first words, the first time you tied your shoes? Maybe you don't, but do you remember your first day at Goldey Beacom College? It was the most frightening step in your life. You sought the friendship among others, and you found it You sought the satisfaction of making the Dean's List or the basketball team, and found that you could do it. Now you are receiving your degrees.
We on the yearbook staff hope that you find happiness and joy in everything you seek.

During the school year 1977-78, the Student Government of Goldey Beacom did many things. They worked with the administration to try to solve that hot water problem in the residence halls. They also sponsored a Spirit Day in which a great number of students participated. Student government was instrumental in the success of the first annual Parents' Day. Other activities sponsored included barbecues, dances, and car washes. Contestants were sponsored for both GBC pageants. In the spring of 1978, Student Government officers built and donated a picnic table to the school. Student Government plays an active role at Goldey Beacom and depends on support from the student body, faculty, and administration.

With Editors Miriam Snyder and Diane Haase, and Advisor Alan Compton, plus a competent staff, the newspaper has become a valuable asset to Goldey Beacom. Starting as a 2-page newspaper, the 1977-78 Communicator has been enlarged to a 4-page, colorful, and informative monthly publication.

Williamsburg Weekend
The weekend of April 8, a group from the college went on a trip to Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. They were able to take a tour through the old colonial town and see some of the original homes and shops. They also spent a day filled with fun at Busch Gardens, an amusement park. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Bahamas
Forty Goldey Beacom students left all the snow and ice in Wilmington to spend five days in the sunny Bahamas. When we all took off with Boots Reed, our "chaperone", we knew that there would never be a dull moment. We arrived in Freeport to find that the Superstars television show was being taped. Among athletes such as Bruce Jenner, Cathy Rigby Mason, and Franco Harris, you could see GBC students crowding close to get autographs. Other daytime activities included boat trips, snorkeling, horseback riding, and just enjoying life and soaking up sun. At night, the GBC students made sure that the residents of Freeport knew we were there. Those expensive taxis made a bundle of of us, oo. All good things must come to an end. We boarded the plane to return to cold and dreary weather but we'll always remember the Bahamas.

Hawaii
On a snowy winter day in January, a group of GBC students, staff, and friends departed for a week of sun and fun in our 50th state. Although there were many delays along the way, everyone had an enjoyable and memorable vacation. Most of our group spent their afternoons surfing, snorkeling, sailing, swimming and sunbathing. Some of the other highlights of the trip included a cruise to Pearl Harbor, a visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center, a sunset dinner cruise (the booze cruise), a Hawaiian show tour (including the Don Ho show), and a luau.

Faculty-Student Softball Game
On Wednesday, May 10, 1978, the students challenged the faculty to a game of softball. The faculty was coached by Dean DeGrange and included such standouts as Mr. Katz, Alice Carson, and other "top notch" teachers and administrators.
The student team was coached by Jeff Johnson. Teammates were Dave Baddorf, Tina Davies, and others. Although the faculty team was behind he whole game, they never gave up their battle.
The final score was Students -- 21, Faculty -- 10.

The first GBC Olympics was held on a cold and windy day in April. Competition was keen. In order to keep from freezing, participants engaged in a tug-of-war, ran a three-legged race, pushed each other around like wheelbarrows, threw softballs, and ran around baseball bats. The team shown above with the trophies did not win them. The winning team was too tired to pose. They gave their names however -- don Moore, Captain, Vicky Bunting, Liz Shoop, Wendy Bowers, Connie Wood, and Bill Foster.

Intramurals are sports activities designed to get students involved with one another, meeting new people and working as a team. Softball is played in the fall, pinball, table tennis in spring. At the completion of each activity, a small get-together is held. Everyone who has participated is invited and awards are given to the outstanding teams and players. The 1978 Intramurals Committee consisted of Judy Wagner and Jeff Johnson.
