Yearbook Staff
Many thanks to all the people who contributed to the 1979 Key. This support consisted of much time and effort, as well as financial support. Special thanks go to such people as Stephanie Brandt who contributed some of the snapshots in this book; also to David Baddorf and Bonnie Kane for being such “super” salespeople. In beginning of the school year we had help from Patty Stella, Renee Burris, Rhonda Johnson, Rosalind Jackson, and Rosalind Johnson. This early help was very much appreciated. Thanks, again, to all of you who helped and who realize the vast amount of time contributed to publishing a yearbook.

Page 5
Begun in 1886 by Harry S. Goldey, as a proprietary school, the purpose of Goldey College was to train young people for office skills. A tradition of serving the community and businesses has existed for almost 100 years. Beacom College was formed in 1900 by William H. Beacom, and it existed separately until the two colleges were merged in 1951 under the present name Goldey Beacom College. The school was reorganized in 1969 as a nonprofit institution.
Goldey Beacom College was located in Wilmington until 1974 when it was relocated to its present campus in Pike Creek Valley. The objective in moving from 10th & West was to better serve the community and businesses. Since its relocation, many changes have been made and will be made in the future in an effort to keep up with changing needs of the people it serves. In addition to associate and diploma programs, Goldey Beacom is now offering bachelor's degrees in such fields as management, office administration, and accounting. Goldey Beacom College is its past, present, and future.

TO THE CLASS OF 1979
You have been a significant part of dynamics of a progressive institution of higher education. Our total college community has been growing and learning together over the past several years. Much of our progress is directly related to student involvement in the classroom, through participation on College committees, through the Student Government and the student services programs. Some of our progress can be traced to student irritation. We believe we have addressed ourselves so that in every instance the students best interests were served first.
Your experiences here are just a beginning to a long, happy life of service to others. Please know that we want each of you to remain close to us as the years pass.

Goldey Beacom Student Government consists of an Executive Committee -- the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer -- and the Senate body. The Executive Committee is elected in May, as are some of the senators. Half of the senators are elected in the fall so that it will be a representative body containing new students as well as old.
Student Government aims to further the personal and scholastic development of students; to represent the student voice; to further the well-being of students, faculty, administration, and the College. It is as strong as the student body makes it. This year's officers and senators have represented the students and the College very well.

This council consists of appointed representatives from each of the campus organizations, plus two members-at-large. This organization works with the Director of Activities to plan and organize all student activities.
USED BOOK STORE Organized and run this year for the first time. David Baddorf and Connie Wood did an excellent job of setting up procedures and getting this new Student Government venture off to a good start. Its very successful operation was due, to a large extent, to the effort and many volunteer hours of David and Connie. Profits from the Used Book Store will be used to benefit the College.

SPIRIT DAY 79'
1979 Spirit Day was fun as usual. Lots of fun and games, and plenty of food, for the enjoyment of the students; the hard work of the Student Government paid off again. The Goldey Beacom "spirit" was evident all day long. Contributions of many kinds were made by all.

DON'T QUIT
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up-hill
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must -- but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he struck it out;
Don't give up, though the pace seems slow --
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out --
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt.
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hot --
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit.
--Anon.
