Dedication

The yearbook staff is pleased to dedicate the 1981 KEY to Joan Sullivan, in honor of her years of dedication and service to Goldey Beacom College. Except for brief interludes to begin raising her family, Joan’s soft-voiced Boston accent has been heard in the halls and classrooms of the College since 1952. Because of personal, family reasons, she is now ending a long and successful career as a teacher of business education, with the rank of Professor.
Joan was born in the witches’ town—Salem, Massachusetts—but she put down permanent roots in Delaware when her husband, James, was employed with the DuPont Company. She graduated from Massachusetts State Teachers College at Salem and then attended Boston University to obtain some necessary teaching credits. The New England area was the spot for Joan as a new teacher, and there she gained valuable experience.
Mrs. Sullivan was the first new teacher hired when Goldey and Beacom merged, so the spot she filled was in the DuPont Steno program plus some evening school teaching. At first she taught the traditional shorthand, typing, and office practice; then specialized in business machines, typing, and word processing. In the last several years, Joan has become extremely knowledgeable in the word processing field through attending workshops, seminars, and through much self-study and hard work.
Three children—two daughters and a son—and three grandchildren make up the younger generations of Sullivans. Her family is important part of Joan’s life.
An interest in sports has been lifelong for both Sullivans. Joan was a field hockey coach during her early teaching career in New Hampshire, but in recent years her main interests have been golf and skiing. Mrs. Sullivan has a strong interest in the Newman Society and would life to see a chapter activated at GBC. In earlier years, she was also active in girl scouting.
When the skies are clear and the ground is dry, look for Joan on the links trying for that hole-in-one. If it has been snowing, try the slopes.

Professor Joan Sullivan

William R. Baldt
President

A genuine liking for people is one of the attributes that has brought Bill Baldt to the presidency of Goldey Beacom College. Even though he is still a relatively young man, he has had a varied career. Right after raduating from the University of Delaware, he began working for national fraternities. This only lasted for a short time, though, because active duty in the Army was on his agenda nine months later. After the Army, he was in banking for approximately one year; then came the beginning of his service to education.
The President was born in New Castle, on The Strand, but was brought up in Wilmington’s Ninth Ward—an area from which many of Wilmington and New Castle County’s civic leaders come. His ties to Delaware are deep; Grandfather Baldt owned steel mills in Baldton. Mr. Baldt believes strongly in the future of the State and believes that the prosperity of Delaware and GBC are tied together; he believes that GBC is economically important in the future development of the State.
A graduate of David Harlan Elementary School where he proudly remembers being part of the color guard, and a graduate of P.S duPont High School, Bill Baldt went on to receive both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Delaware. Army Service, in Kentucky and Maryland, was as a platoon leader in the tank corps. A one-year training program at the Philadelphia National Bank followed, but when a more appealing prospect came along—a job in education with the University of Delaware—he accepted the new job becaue it meant a career in the area he is most concerned about.
Wife Sheila, whom he married in the main base chapel at Fort Meade, is employed as an administrator by the New Castle County School District; and his three children will soon be launched on their careers. The oldest daughter, who speaks fluent French, has spent a year as a student in France. One twin wants to enter sports medicine, and the other twin desires a career in communications. The Baldts presently live in Wilmington, although Sheila is working on plans for a solar house which they hope to build some time in the future. Raising dogs is another family interest, and the present house is shared by two French poodles and one 17-year-old-black cat.
In his four years as President, Mr. Baldt has seen many changes and feels that most have been positive steps. Plans are now in the works to improve landscaping. He sees his role of president as being that of a leader and a moderator—to instigate ideas, help get projects started, and then make sure that responsible people will carry them through. He enjoys the students and thinks Goldey Beacom College has the best student body any school could have.

Jane E. DeGrange, Vice President for Student Affairs

From starting out in a large coat room as Goldey’s first counselor to the pleasant office she occupies today, Jane DeGrange hasn’t lost her ability to relate to the students; nor has she lost her desire or ability to try to help solve everyone’s problems. Whenever possible, Jane has an open door.
Born in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Jane DeGrange has never lived too far from home, but she has traveled extensively to many parts of the world—the Caribbean, Mexico, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Ireland, Iceland, and many of the states. Visiting son David, who is an Army career man, and granddaughters, helps add to the DeGrange travel itinerary.
Very interested in adult learners, Dean DeGrange is working on plans for a special program for returnees to education. She also wants to see more attention given to alumni and international student groups.
In her spare time, Jane DeGrange might be found at her summer home in Rehoboth. Gardening, sailing, reading, and craft work are also interests.

IN MEMORIAM
Doris M. Peters

On September 8, 1980, Goldey Beacom College lost a faithful alumni, a dedicated employee, and most importantly, a dear friend. Doris M. Peters was an integral part of the life here at GBC until her untimely death.
As a student enthusiastically involved in numerous activities, Doris was chosen to represent the College as Miss GBC in 1973. Her creativity, talent for organization, and exuberant personality made a success of many of the Miss GBC Pageants that followed her reign.
Two years after graduation from the Legal Secretarial program, Doris returned to GBC as a member of the staff. After three years of diligent work and dedication, Doris’ outstanding contribution to the College prompted her promotion to the position of Assistant Registrar in March, 1979.
In addition to playing an instrumental role in the operations of the College, Doris also deeply touched the lives of many people. Her caring attitude and understanding made her a very special kind of person to those who knew her.
Sparkle of Doris M. Peters is missed by all.

Phyllis F. Campbell, Controller

Need any information about the history of Goldey Beacom? Ask the expert! Phyllis Campbell has been at GBC for thirty years—hard to believe when you see how youthful she looks. Phyllis came to Beacom as a student when she graduated from Wilmington High and, with the exception of a brief respite when young Burt was born, Phyllis has been here ever since.
A native Wilmington who comes from a family of twelve children, Phyllis has many relatives in this area. Many of these relatives, including her son and daughter-in-law, have also attended the College.
Phyllis Campbell started working part-time for Beacom College before graduating with an associate degree; when the two colleges merged, Phyllis became registrar in January of 1952. In 1977 she became Controller of the College.
Phyllis has many creative interests. She likes craft work and has had a lifetime hobby she and husband Burt share –collecting and refinishing antiques. Chances are you will find Phyllis baby-sitting with the Campbell granddaughter—not much dust gathers at her feet.

Harry Evens, Jr., Custodian

Who doesn’t know Harry Evans? After twenty years at the College, Harry still seems as young as the students and many consider him to be their special friend.
He’s native Delawarean and lives with his wife in Wilmington. Harry and Elizabeth Evans have two grown children who left home to pursue successful businessman (recently featured in an issue of Ebony), and his daughter is an airline hostess.
The best looking car in the parking belongs to Harry and, now that his sister is in Florida, he plans to make frequent trips South.
Harry’s hobby is sports. The best gift he could receive would be a ticket to a bowl game.

June Whann, Coordinator of Media Relations

Dedicated is a good word for June Whann. Once she came to Goldey, she was never able to leave except for a brief hiatus to start raising four daughters. So far, three of these daughters have also attended GBC.
A graduate of GBC’s two-year, executive secretarial program, June accepted a position as secretary to A. Raymond Jackson, then Director of Admissions. Since that time, she has been in Admissions in different capacities, advancing from a secretarial position to the administrative level.
Although June graduate from high school in Aberdeen, Maryland, she considers herself to be mostly a North Carolinian. With marriage to a DuPont employee, Ronald, June has put down permanent roots in Delaware.
Between taking care of her family and putting in more than 40 hours a week at Goldey, June still finds time to work on her bachelor’s in office administration. If she has any time left over, you might find her sewing or reading.

Elizabeth Miller, Senior Academic Advisor

Diversified is the one word that best describes Elizabeth Miller. A native Wilmingtonian, she graduated from Wilmington High and then the old Memorial Nursing School and began a career as an RN; from there she went on to get her bachelor’s at the U. of Pennsylvania, taught in nursing school, came to Goldey to supervise and teach medical secretarial students, and now advises students.
Elizabeth has three grown sons and a husband. Robert Bruce, but her interests range far beyond family and Goldey. She is on board of the Arthritis Foundation; lay leader and parish communicator for the Episcopal Church; belongs to Alpha Omicron Pi; and holds offices in the State DAR. In her “spare time,” you will probably find Elizabeth being creative or at home in the new plant room recently added to their home.

Student Services

Jane Singles R.N., Coordinator of Student Health Services.

You might recognize the lady with the jogging suit—well, that’s Jane Singles, our coordinator of health services; a person who believes very strongly in keeping fit! Since Jane jas been at GBC, she has been dedicated to the proposition that we will have the very best health services she can provide.
When the opportunity was presented to initiate and coordinate the brand-new health services at Goldey, no one better than Jane Singles could have been chosen. Her hard work and dedication have paid off, and four years later Jane runs a smoothly organized set of services for the students, faculty, and staff of GBC.
Jane Hall Singles is a native Delawarean; she was brought up in the Price’s Corner area. Her first ambition in life was to be a farmer, but the FFA seemingly blighted her life by refusing to accept women. Fortunately, farming’s loss was nursing’s gain. Jane graduated from Meorial Hospital nursing school and began a career as a visiting nurse. A husband, two children, and many years later, Jane also acquired a bachelor’s from the U. of D. Son William presently attends GBC.
Little things make Jane happy. Her day is really complete if she finds out you are a good prospect for the product testing she does!

Stephanie Brandt, Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Activities

Fortunately for Goldey Beacom, no coaching jobs were available when Stephanie Brandt graduated from University of Delaware in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in gymnastics. Her sincere liking for people made her a natural for the new job opening of Director of Student Activities; two years later Steph combined that job with that of dorm director—spouse, Mike, joined in that venture. She thoroughly enjoyed living in the form and misses the closeness to the students. Her active three-year-old, Scottie, was born while they lived in the dorm, and a most pleasant memory to Steph is the surprise baby shower the students gave her just before the birth in 1978.
A graduate of Christiana High, Stephanie was born in Philadelphia but has spent most of her life in the Newark area. She is very close to her twin brother, three other siblings, and parents who live nearby.
Someday Stephanie hopes to become a coach—field hockey is her favorite sport, and she plays in the Delaware Field hockey Association. She is presently working on many innovations and projects for the students. She would very much like to see the night school students become more involved in activities.

Faculty

Rebecca H. Abel. Distinguished Professor.

Almost an institution at GBC, Miss Abel is well known by past and present GBCstudents and Delawarean. Her hard work and dedication, both in school and out, have brought and recognition of her skills and abilities. In the 1980 she was awarded the title of Distinguished Professor by the President of GBC—another award to add to those she was accumulated.
Although she has not moved far from her birthplace on a farm in Childs, Maryland, Miss Abel has traveled extensively. She has sen all 50 states and has traveled to more distant places. Last summer it was to Europe; about ten years ago, to Cyprus and the Near-East. Although she is active in the Penninsula-McCabe Methodist Church and the Administrative Management Society, Miss Abel’s main hobby is travel.
A graduate of the University of Delaware and then Beacom College, Miss Abel started her career as a typing teacher. In 1966 she was made Chairman of the Secretarial Department and Associate Dean; in 1974, Academic Dean and Vice President of the College. But, in 1978, she resigned to go back to teaching, her first love. Forty years have not diminished her energy.
One brother and sister are still living within a close visiting distance, so Miss Abel enjoys visiting them as we as nieces and nephews. When the opportunity arises, though, you will probably find her in more distant place. Of course, she is always an optimist—the boat won’t sink this time.

Susan S. Bryde, Assistant Professor.

Susan Bryde is beginning her sixth year of teaching at Goldey Beacom College. She came to Goldey with her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Vocational. After graduation from the University of Tennessee, Susan worked in marketing and merchandising in Atlanta, Georgia, so acquired some very useful background before teaching in the marketing-management field at GBC.
In addition to caring for son Jason, who was two years old this summer, Susan and husband Gary are very involved with city renovation. They live in the City of Wilmington, and are currently working on renovating their second house. Since Susan is a Delaware native, she feels deeply that urban renewal—especially the City of Wilmington—is very important for economic growth of the area.
Since taking care of an active two-year-old severely limits outside activities, renovating their 90-year-old house probably becomes the third most important job to Susan (after GBC and Jason). The Brydes, though, try to be as active as possible in Cityside and the Delaware Avenue Community Association.

Telford J. Hill, Assistant Professor

From a small town farm in western Pennsylvania, through a varied career in the armed services and private business, to a career as a college professor, Jack Hill has retained his basic beliefs and lifestyles. Nine years of his life was spent in the U.S Marines—in communications and as a parachute in conjunction with that communications experience. The first step was the big one—but 39 times out of airplane is quite an accomplishment.
Jack Hill considers one of the main benefits of his Marine Corps experience to be the fact that he met and married his wife when he was stationed in North Carolina. The Hills have one daughter who is presently attending college. While in the Corps, he also saw service in the Mediterranean and in Vietnam.
After retirement from the Marines, Jack began working for private business. He ended up in Wilmington and then became a part-time teacher for Goldey. Finding that he enjoyed teaching, he applied for full-time employment teaching management and tax courses. He is now beginning his sixth year as a teacher. His undergraduate work was in agriculture, but his graduate degrees are in business administration and occupational education.

Gertrude Weaver, Professor.

Because of her excellent ability to work with words, Gertrude Weaver received a scholarship to Temple University—this began her long and successful teaching career. Because of this love of words, one of her favorite subjects is written communications.
Mrs. Weaver has been a familiar face to more than one generation of GBC students—she has seen many changes over almost a 25-year period. She presently teaches shorthand and office practice, but has taught in many other secretarial science areas.
A native Wilmingtonian, Gertrude Weaver is a graduate of the old Wilmington High School. Then she graduated from Temple, with a B.S. in Education. Before coming to Goldey, she taught for a short while at both Wilmington high school and P.S. At P.S. she enjoyed teaching in the adult evening school.
In addition to husband Luther, Mrs.Weaver’s extended family includes one daughter, five step-children, 22 grandchildren, and 10+ great-grandchildren—enough family to keep anyone busy for a long time.
Main hobbies are arts and crafts—loves to work with seashells, sew and knit. The Weavers also enjoy traveling and have seen much of the United States.

Rose Mary Beach. Professor and Librarian

Librarianship wasn’t Mrs. Beach’s first career choice. She majored in journalism at the University of Iowa in her home state and, before coming to Goldey Beacom, her jobs included audience research for the Gallup Polls, newscastwriting for the Associated Press in New York City, and teaching at Green Mountain Junior College in Vermont. In 1956 she came to Goldey Beacom to teach English and shorthand. After spending a year at Drexel obtaining her Master’s in Library Science, she was asked to serve as the college’s first professional librarian. Starting from almost nothing, Rose Mary can be given most of the credit for the library we have today.
Mrs. Beach is the proud mother of three sons; a banker, an accountant, and a lawyer. She also has two grandsons. Her hobbies include travel, reading, gardening, antiques, and taking care of her cats and dogs.

Evening School

Joseph Armstrong, Associate Academic Dean and Director of Evening Division.

After a long career at Goldey Beacom, Joe Armstrong is presently Director of the Evening Division. His goal is to see that evening school students are even better served than those students who attend day school classes.
Mr. Armstrong is a graduate of LaSalle College, with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration majoring in Accounting. He has his Master’s from Temple in business Administration. He is also a CPA.
After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Navy—a typical beginning for most young men who graduated in the early forties. After graduating from college, he went into industry. After 13 years in industry, he began teaching at Goldey Beacom College in 1959. Joe started in night school, but found that there was much more satisfaction to be found in teaching than there was in industry.
Mr. Armstrong is married; has three children, and one grandchild.

Student Government

The year 1980-81 has been another successful one for the Goldey Beacom Student Government. We have been busy with our usual activities – used book store, fundraising projects, hosting open houses, sponsoring various student activities, and assisting with the fall and spring orientation programs.
We have also reached out to the community. This year we collected canned goods for the needy families, and we had a Christmas party for underprivileged children.
Presently, we are working on elections, replenishing our financial status, and preparing future goals for next year.

Spirit Day – 1981

How do we show the spirit of GBC? Everyone gets into the act! A Revised class schedule, lots of fun and games, and food, and participation by all help us to enjoy the day. We can laught at the right times and enjoy being part of the day’s festivities. On Spirit Day there is something for everyone—we have such events as a three-legged race’ pudding eating contest; name that tune; musical chairs; and a novelty, a baby-picture guessing game. A delicious cake was shared. Every year gets better—we hope you took part this year and will again next year.

PAGEANT COMMITTEE

The Pageant Committee is composed of volunteer students, faculty, and staff members who work together to produce the annual Miss Noel Dinner Dance, Miss GBC Pageant, and the Miss GBC Dinner – Dance.
Student organizations sponsors contestants who compete in the “popular vote” Miss Noel Contest and in the Miss GBC Pageant. The Pageant is judged by five professionals in the area, while the contestants appear in bathing suits, evening gowns, talent, and offstage competition. Then the committee works with the Miss GBC in preparation for the June Miss Delaware Pageant.
    This committee has a very busy—but enjoyable—year.

MISS GBC 1981

Sara Jane Masonheimer, representing Kappa Omega Pi, was selected Miss Goldey Beacom 1981 at the Pageant held on Sunday, May 3. In addition to winning the crown, Saa was also chosen by her peers for the first Doris Peters Congeniality award.
The theme of the pageant was “Broadway Melodies.” From the opening—with a memorial tribute to Doris Peters—to the playing of “Look at Her,” by Chris and Ed Maccrone, the pageant was excellent. Eleven talented young women tried out for the coveted award. Jennifer Ihle, representing Intramurals, won the non-finalist talent award. Jennifer played the guitar and sang “I Love You So.”
The top four winners also included Alisa Smith, first runner-up, who represented Student Government; Mary Lynn Jasinski, second runner-up, who represented Phi Beta Lambda. The three runner-ups, along with Sara, were also asked to take part in the State Pageant in June.
Eileen Hackett, who did an outstanding job representing the College as the 1980 winner, bowed out with a jazz dance. She and doug Cannington hosted the program. Making guest appearances were Andra Dickerson, Miss Delaware 1980; and our own Wendy Bowers who entertained with a song.
The competition was tough, so the judges had difficult decisions to make. But all the weeks of hard practice added up to a very good show.

YEARBOOK STAFF

We capture special moments for you and hope you will enjoy the memories in this book.
A lot goes into production of a yearbook---many hours of work, of decision-making, or being where the action is. At times it was fun; at other times just hard work and wondering if we could meet our deadlines.
Special thanks to the many people who helped: thanks to people such as Stephanie Brandt for some really good pictures; to Ellen Muldoon for the cover design; to Lisa Heckman, Michael Walton, and Ken Jamison for their help last fall; to Pete Rispoli for some good candids; to people like Gaysala Golden and Alice Frock who offered some help when it was needed; but most of all to Joy, Ann, and Gloria who spent many late hours working on layouts and other necessary jobs that had to be done. And lest I forget, thanks to Clint Young for being a good salesman.
It isn't possible to put out a good yearbook without lots of support, and we hope this is the best one yet.

PHASE II

Phase II is a support group of returning students which was conceived in the spring of 1980 with five members--it has grown to 25 members in its first year. The only membership requirement is that the student must have been away from the classroom for several years.
Phase II helps its members adjust to college life as adult learners. The group meets every week for lunch and discussion.
Future plans are for group members to meet qualified new students before classes begin in order to make adjustments even less painful.

KAPPA

Kappa Omega Pi Fraternity was founded January 16, 1968 when Goldey Beacom was located in Wilmington. Kappa is open to all male students who are attending Goldey Beacom College. In the past, Kappa has been numerically small, but has grown to be the largest fraternity at Goldey Beacom with close to 30 active brothers.
Our fraternity is made up of a "unique" group of brothers who are well known on and off the campus for our various activities. We are also known for our dominance in the sports competition at GBC. We have won the only "Triple Crown" at Goldey and have won 7 out of the last 9 meetings in sports competition against our rival fraternity.
The Kappa Omega Pi brothers receive numerous discounts throughout the area in many different stores. Our fraternity is greatly supported by our sisters, Zeta Nu Upsilon, which is by far the best sorority at GBC.
Perhaps one of our strongest points is the brotherhood within the fraternity, not only during college but throughout each members lifetime, we are in constant contact with our alumni brothers when we need advice or when we have an event, activity, or one of our famous Kappa parties.

Zeta Nu Upsilon sorority is established to pursue opportunities to learn to expand our horizons in the business world and to lend support to the work of Zeta Nu Upsilon. By daily resolution we pledge to enlarge our character by practices and not merely by precepts in an effort to acquire the perfection of the characteristics of womanhood.
Our organization not only brings girls closer together, but it can help build strength and character. In our sorority we call ourselves sisters, and we are. The unity that we have is one that cannot be broken. We share an everlasting bond of friendship.
We began our year with a Kappa/Zeta yard sale to help us raise money for our fall acceptance party. We had a successful fall pledge class in which we initiated 20 new sisters. Our year was highlighted by many activities and community projects such as donation of canned goods and a turkey to a needy family in teh area, our biggest fund-raiser-Merri Bells sales, Zeta Christmas party, our annual rose sale, donations to the Philadelphia Children's Hospital, participation in the various Spirit Day activities, visiting Leach School for the handicapped, spring pledge class and acceptance party, Kappa/Zeta picnic and camping trip.
Throughout the year, we interact with our brothers Kappa Omega Pi. This special group of brothers helps us to plan activities and support us in all of our endeavors.

Front Row: Cheryl Cescon, Pat Thompson, Barbara Buckwalter, Kelly Pine, Lisa Mirabella, Jeannie Parento, Petra Lippe, Anne Lankford.

Missing: Jennifer Ihle, Karen Shoop, Mary Lou Pfautz.

Coach Reed's team this year showed strength of one that was rebuilding. Although five of the players hhad no prior experience playing competitive volleyball, the team came through with a surprising record of seven wins and seven defeats.
The returning players this year were Cheryl Cescon (leading server last year and this year), Pat THompson (leading spiker), and Lisa Mirabella (leading setter). They put forth an excellent effort.
The new players to the team this year were Barbara Buckwalkter, Jennifer Ihle, Jean Parento, Mary Lou Pfautz, and Kelly Pine. They aso put forth tremendous effort, and they will definitely be the ones to watch on the court next year.
According to the team members, Coach Reed deserves all the credit. He worked hard with each of them and showed much concern, patience, and knowledge throughout the 1980 volleyball season. The team expressed many thanks for his fine coaching of another successful season and best of luck and success to next year's team.

Top Right Picture: Second year Coach Reed, Karen Shoop, Pat Thompson, Cheryl Cescon, Tracy Fisher, Brenda Vannoy.

This year's Women's Softball Team was great to work with, according to Coach Reed. Because it was a rainy spring, they worked out a lot in the gym; when the weather was good, on the field.
In the second game, the team suffered several injuries-- shortstop Brenda Vannoy broke her finger; third baseman hurt her back, and Sherry Vannoy, the pitcher, left the team. Due to all the injuries, many changes had to be made, but everything worked out well. The team went on to a 4 win, 5 lose record and made a lot of great plays; they also had a lot of fun along the way.
Coach Reed would like to thank Pat Thompson, Karen Shoop, Tracy Fisher, Sally Pitts, Ann Lankford, Mary Morgan, Cheryl Cescon, Gina Romandino, Barbara Buckwalter, Lori Henderson, and Tracy Walls for their dedication to the softball team. He wishes them good luck in the future.

Not Pictured: Gene Reed.

The golf did not have a lot of time on the course due to the rain; however, they were ready for their first match and did very well, losing to Del Tech—Terry 476 to 480. The next match was with Brandywine and, again, Del Tech—Terry. Brandywine won. GBC was second, and Del Tech—Terry was third. The last two games found the team improving steadily. The team members did a great job, according to the Coach.

Front Row: Mark Ellis, Bink Francis, Jerry Connaty, Pat O’Donnell.

Missing: Bruce Williams, Jerome Crewes, Roger Palmer.

This year’s basketball team was very good Mark Ellis, Bink Francis, Bruce Irvine, Smut O’Donnell, Robert Ferguson, John Lawson, Jerry Connaty, Bruce Williams,
Roger Palmer, and Otis Hightower were just a
few who helped to make this a fine year. The
team finished with a 7 and 13 record, and Coach
Reed was pleased with their work. Bink Francis assisted and Bruce Irvine led the team in rebounds; Mark Ellis led the team in scoring. With some new players coming in, they are looking for a better team next year.

A MESSAGE TO ALUMNI

You are now alumna/alumnus of this College and we are delighted to welcome you to the Goldey Beacom College Alumni Association.
Young alumni such as yourselves often ask what they can do to help their alma mater. Typically, they feel they cannot make significant contributions, financial or otherwise, because of being involved in launching a career. There are, however, many ways in which you can actively help your college, and most of these ways have little to do with age or finances.
Why young alumni? You are closer to the college experience and its problem than older alumni; yet far enough removed to give us a better perspective than current undergraduates. You are in a good position to donate time and energy to your alma mater. How?
    1. You should have strong views on the success or failure or your college education, and these views should be fed back to us.
    2. Keep us informed of your latest business and civic activities—our current students need a touch of the real world, and you can be our liaison between the working world and academic world.
    3. Write to us about your experiences, good or bad. Keep the Alumni Office and the President of our college informed about what is happening.
    4. Keep in touch with the Placement Office if you know of any job openings at your company that might interest our students.
    5. Read your copy of Reflections, the alumni newsletter, very thoroughly. It’s your main source of information on current campus news, alumni projects, trips, and special events.
    6. Inform our Admissions Department of good students you are acquainted with who might be interested in Goldey Beacom College. Many of you were previously recommended to us by alumni.
    7. Keep our college prominent in your own biographies. The more people who become aware of your successes as related to your alma mater, the more successful we all become.
You are now automatically a member of our association, joining over 9,500 others who have passed this way before you; and you are a welcome addition. There are no dues or fees. Membership is free. All we ask is that you keep in touch and let us know of your progress.

Congratulations and best wishes for your future.

Accepting ourselves the way we are is difficult at times;
Especially if we see mistakes as unforgivable crimes.
But when we’ve done the best we can, that’s all that we can do;
We’ve got to let the past go by, or end up feeling blue.
