Goldey Beacom College, established in 1886, is a dedicated institution. Its students set high goals for themselves and aspire to them with great perseverance.
Since becoming a four-year college, the student body has expanded in size greatly. Yet, this growth has not changed the warm personal environment Goldey Beacom offers to all students.
After graduation from Goldey Beacom, students go into the business world with open arms. Their strong educational background and extra-curricula activities have prepared them to meet challenges encountered throughout their professional and personal lives as well.

New Faces
One of Goldey Beacom College’s newest staff members is Mr. David Hall, Coordinator of Resident Halls. Mr. Hall accepted this position with a degree in Psychology-Sociology.
When asked how he proposed to maintain the residence hall, Mr. Hall stated, “Everyone should adhere to the housing guidelines as closely as possible. The guidelines are existence for a purpose. The guidelines are flexible. If residents feel a need for a change, they are open to suggestion.
Mr. Hall feels that life in residence halls can be rewarding and memorable experience for everyone. Mr. Hall encourages everyone to get involved in sponsored activities and simply enjoy the college experience at GBC!

Whats Happening?
Page 7
The student body at GBC is always an active one. When students are not attending classes or at work, they can be found in and around the college participating in a variety of activities. The annual Christmas Bazaar is a favorite. Students and members of the community come together to buy and sell handmade wares. Funds from such an event support college clubs and organizations. Students relax with a great meal of hamburger and fries over the buzz of friendly conversation.

New Openings
The other side of Goldey Beacom! Where is it? The downtown campus of Goldey Beacom reopened as the Business Training Center in November of 1983. Many of our teachers were transferred to the campus like Mrs. Patsy Perry, Mrs. Janet Robinson, and Miss Shirley Peterson. The center is different in many ways from the main campus such as having one teacher teaching six subjects while we have six teachers teaching one subject.
The students work in a simulated office atmosphere where they work on an individual basis at their own pace. The student will most likely stay in one classroom for all her scheduled classes. Most students are upgrading their knowledge and sills, while many are sent by their employer to learn new skills. It is a very informal setting and very beneficiary for all who attend.

Miss GBC 1983
Kim Hoepstine, Miss GBC 1983, is an 18-year-old sophomore pursuing studies in management.
Kim competed in last year’s annual Miss GBC pageant. Kim sang “Nothing” for her talent which was a frightening experience for her. “I just pretended I was in Leach Hall lounge practicing and I was fine.”
The pageant is held each spring at Del Castle High School. The event draws approximately 500-600 people. The competition consists of the following:
1. Bathing suit.
2. Talent.
3. Evening gown.
4. Interview.
The duties of Miss GBC are varied. For instance, Kim sang for the Alpha Chi Honor Society, appeared at open houses, participated in the Wilmington Christmas parade, greeted freshman parents and students at freshman orientation, and much more.
Being Miss GBC is a very special experience; one to be remembered for a lifetime.

Working at the Business Training Center has made me a lot of new friends. I have also learned a lot of new and interesting facts and have gained experience in various fields. One student in particular which I have become good friends with is Aneita Warrick (who is not picture.) She is going for a diploma and taking typing, word processing, and recordkeeping. She is a very funny person, if I have to say, and never seem to think she knows what she is doing, even though she does. She is a hard worker and I know she’ll get far. Good Luck Aneita in everything you do, and good luck to all the other students whom I have had the pleasure of meeting and assisting at the Business Training Center. Best of luck in everything you always do. By: Stacy Allen.

The Faces of GBC
Faces of GBC!
There are all sorts of faces at the campus. Happy faces, sad faces, and confused faces. Students from all over the country come to Goldey Beacom College to expand their horizon. Some of the new faces are Barbara Gross, Dave Hall, and Paula Finnefrock. A familiar face is Elizabeth Miller who has been with us for many years and is retiring this year. We will all miss her dearly and wish her all the best. A luncheon was dedicated to her Wednesday, May 9, 1984 at the Three Little Bakers. Whatever the case may be the faces at Goldey Beacom College are always smiling. Everyone is friendly and always lending a hand. BE it a student, instructor or staff personnel, they are always there if you need them.

A
Message
To
Alumni
Congratulations!
You are now an alumna/alumnus of Goldey Beacome College and we are delighted to welcome you to the Alumni Association with a membership of over 12,000 who have passed this way before you.
New association members, such as you, often ask what they can do for their alma mater. Typically, it is felt that they cannot make significant contributions, financial or otherwise, becuae of involvement with a new career, marriage, starting a family, etc.
These are, however, many ways in which you can actively and consciously help your college, and we will list several:
1. Being younger alumni, you are closer to the College experience and its problems, yet you are far enough removed to give us a better perspective than current undergraduates. This puts you in a good position to devote time and energy to your alma mater.
2. You can act as advocates for the college in your respective neighborhoods, place of business, halls of government, and high schools while LAO assisting in the student recruitment process.
3. Your views on the success or failure of your college education as related to your career goals should always be fed back to us.
4. Keep us informed of your latest business and civic activities, honors, awards, and recognition by your peers, and keep your alma mater prominent in your biographies. The more people who become aware of your successes as related to Goldey Beacom College, the more successful we all become.
5. Read your copy of Reflections, the Alumni newspaper, thoroughly since it will be your main source of information regarding current campus news, trips, reunion, chapter formations. “Alumni on the Move”, Alumni projects, board member appointments and special events.
6. Make every effort to visit the campus often to participate in job fairs, Alumni days, reunions, etc. Our current students always need to touch of the REAL world in which you are now involved, and you can be the liaison between the business world and the academic world.
Remember, there are no dues or fees required for membership in our association – it is free. All we ask is that you sincerely consider some of all of the above mentioned suggestions and, above all, KEEP IN TOUCH.
Best Wishes For Your Future
From The Alumni Office And
The Alumni Association

Here lies a piece of artwork, which through many hard hours and physical exertion, is completed. I am proud to say this is for all of you in the GBC community. I hope you enjoy the yearbook as much as I did creating it for you. I wish all of you a successful and rewarding future, and hope you will look back and think about all your “good times” at Goldey Beacom. Thank you everyone who has assisted me in completing the yearbook, it was an effort well put forth.
